'The Dark Knight Rises' Tops 'The Dark Knight'

Today, The Dark Knight Rises officially crossed the $1 billion mark in world-wide box office receipts, simultaneously surpassing Christopher Nolan’s second Batman film, 2008’s The Dark Knight, and now sits at #12 on the all time list. It’s almost certain to crack the top ten by the end of its run.

This is all the more impressive as both are among only five films to cross the billion dollar threshold without seeing a 3D (re)release.
